Pupils at King Charles School in Falmouth enjoyed a well-earned break from normal lessons for the week before half term, as they took part in a variety of activities on and off site as part of enrichment week.

Among the things on the agenda for the week were first aid and guitar lessons, animal, cookery lessons making healthy breakfasts, a Zumba class, dancing, as well as sports days for all years.

In addition there were visits by representatives from the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay, who brought along some aquatic creatures; from Naturally Learning, who taught children how to light a campfire and toast marshmallows and from Falmouth Art Gallery, who helped youngsters make animal masks.

There were also trips to the beach for some classes. On Friday, year two children were given beach safety tips from Matthew Stone, chairman of Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club, while year four pupils went rockpooling with marine biology students from Falmouth Marine School.

The 51 pupils enjoyed a three hour session on rock-pool identification and an introduction to marine biology when they discovered hermit crabs, star fish, shrimp, spider grabs, a goby, and a pipefish.

Head of school, Lee Moscato, said: "Enrichment week is all about adding to the curriculum we provide and including things we do not normally have as part of our everyday curriculum. It's about us making time to add the extra element of having fun while learning at school.

"It has also been a treat for year six and year two children to celebrate the end of their testing and to celebrate their efforts. It's been a busy week and the children have absolutely loved it."
