Students at Falmouth School were given the chance to sign up for adventurous activities, following a recent visit from the Cornwall Army Cadets.

SSI Chris Metcalf arrived at the school to speak in assembly about those opportunities, which include abseiling, caving, kayaking, open canoeing, rock-climbing, mountain walking, skiing, mountaineering, diving and white-water rafting.

Each year, there are around six weekend camps, held at RAF St Mawgan, and two longer residential camps. The culmination of the training year is the annual camp held in the summer holidays.

Falmouth students had the chance during lunch time to meet with Mr Metcalf, look at some of the equipment the cadets use and even try their hand at a few activities. Mr Metcalf spoke of how beneficial joining can be. “There are so many great opportunities available with the army cadets," he said. "Not only does it teach important lessons in life such as discipline and self-confidence, but it is a lot of fun as well.”

Falmouth detachment parades take place on Wednesday evening’s between 6.30pm and 8pm at the Cadet Centre on Bar Road and are free. If you are interested or have any questions, contact SSI Chris Metcalf at falplatoonacf@hotmail.co.uk or find them on Facebook and Twitter. New cadets aged of 12 and over are welcome to attend.
