Families are being encouraged to not just ‘talk the talk’ but ‘walk the walk’ thanks to a new walking festival taking place around Porthleven, the Lizard and West Cornwall this week.

The Walk West Cornwall festival was launched by the mayors of Porthleven, Helston and Penzance – Barbara Powell, Gillian Geer and Mike Lovegrove – as the three main areas the routes take in.

Organised by Porthleven town councillor Bev Plunkett, through her work for holiday cottage agency Helpful Holidays, the festival sees a total of 17 guided tours taking place between next Tuesday and Thursday.

These take in everywhere from the coastlines of Cadgwith and Mullion, the monuments of St Ives and the landmarks of Penzance through to the history of Helston and the pirates of Prussia Cove.

There is also a foraging walk for flora and fauna in the Porthleven area.

Some walks are family friendly, while others are for adults only due to their length and the nature of the terrain.

They range from being free of charge through to £15.
