A surprise presentation has been made to honour a Mullion parish councillor who has served the community for a quarter of a century.

Carolyn Rule was given a St Piran flag badge made from Cornish tin, flowers and a framed long service award certificate by chairman John Lang, in recognition of her 25 years on the parish council.

Mrs Rule, who is also the area’s representative on Cornwall Council, was elected to serve the parish in May 1991.

She said of the presentation: “It was a real surprise. I knew that I’d done 25 years, but I didn’t think they would make a fuss about it.

“I’m thrilled everyone has put up with me for this long and hopefully a bit longer.”

Mrs Rule follows in the footsteps of her father Reg Freeman, who also served for 25 years on the council.

The link with the council has been a real family affair, with Mrs Rule’s late husband John and son Chris also serving on it.

“It’s been a real honour to represent people in Mullion for such a long time. That’s been my life’s work; I’ve made the council my full time job,” added Mrs Rule.
