Children at Camp Kernow in Truro, are benefitting from healthy eating options while increasing their knowledge about sustainability thanks to Irrigatia’s solar powered automatic watering system which has been donated by the company.

Camp Kernow, which survives on natural resources, offers summer camps that inspire and educate children and young people about sustainability and the natural environment through hands-on-experience, adventure and exploration.

The new Irrigatia C120 system has enabled the children to grow their own fruit and vegetables in a 5m by 11m polytunnel without the worry of manually watering the crops.

Charlie Nicholson, from Camp Kernow, said: “Previously it took more than an hour to water the polytunnel but now the Irrigatia system waters it automatically every three hours. The longer the daylight hours in a day the more the system waters, it’s fantastic.

“All the crops are growing perfectly, we have around 160-170 drip feeders. Each year 900 children visit our camp, the Irrigatia system has had a massive impact on their wellbeing.”
