A PASTY chef from Connor Downs has been chosen as the winner of W C Rowe's 'Design Your Own Pasty' competition

Janna Eyre's Veggie Power Pasty was the most popular in a shortlist of three with the winner being chosen by public vote.

Janna will now see her veggie pasty go into production for sale at W C Rowe’s shops across Cornwall.

The ingredients Janna chose to put in the pasty includes; baby spinach leaves, butternut squash, feta cheese, red onion, red chilli and oregano, mostly inspired by her mum’s allotment in Hayle.

Nick Brown, Development Chef at W C Rowe says about the pasty:

“The unique combination of ingredients makes this a truly exciting vegetarian option which will appeal to all tastes, even meat eaters.

"It’s the first time we have seen these delicious ingredients in pasties and we believe it will be a popular alternative to our cheese & onion pasty this summer”.

Janna was also keen to ensure that this vegetarian option was a taste sensation, after years of eating the same ‘boring veggie pasties’ in her own words.

She further comments: “The inspiration for the Veggie Power Pasty came from the crops that my mum grows in her veg patch, tons of spinach and lots of yummy butternut squash. I also love running and because I love pasties, I can now have a Veggie Power pasty to keep me going on a long run”.

The Veggie Power Pasty will be on sale from today, Friday, July 1. Five pence of every pasty sold will be donated to Children’s Hospice South West, a joint initiative set up by Rowe’s and CHSW.

Bernadette Chambers, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be befitting from the sales of the winning pasty from the competition. Money raised will come straight to Little Harbour and help us in offering care and support to local families facing a difficult time ahead. We are so grateful to Rowe’s for involving us in the competition in our special 25th Anniversary Year and we encourage everyone to try the winning pasty at least once!”

W C Rowe ran the competition over the past six weeks to ‘design yer own’ pasty. After choosing the top three designs, it then went to a public vote.

With over 440 votes of the total 1,100 votes received, this veg-tastic pasty was a clear winner.
