The principal of Cornwall College has announced his resignation after three years in the job.

Amarjit Basi, who is also the chief executive of the group which includes Falmouth Marine School, will leave the college on July 31.

Philip Rees, chair of governors, said: "It is with regret that the board of governors of Cornwall College has accepted the resignation of Amarjit Basi.

"Amarjit has been the principal and chief executive officer of the college for the last three years, during which he has led the college to change its direction and structures, delivered a very good Ofsted inspection outcome and overseen the merger with Bicton College.

"We wish him well with the next stage of his career in further and higher education. The board of governors will immediately put in place the process of recruiting a new principal and chief executive officer, and in the meantime has asked Raoul Humphreys to become acting chief executive officer and principal from when Amarjit leaves on July 31 until that process is complete.
