One person in Helston had to be treated for smoke inhalation after firefighters responded to two house fires in ten minutes yesterday evening (5/7).

Crews from Helston and Falmouth were sent to a property at Porth Gwedhen in Helston at 7.25pm, where they found a fire involving a washing machine which was extinguished using a high pressure hosereel jet. Firefighters then removed the machine from the home.

Meanwhile crews from Mullion and Tolvaddon were sent to Trenethick Parc just after 7.30pm to another house fire, to which the crews from the Porth Gwedhen fire were also called.

A fire service spokesperson said: "On arrival there was found to be a fire on the first floor in the bathroom of a two storey property.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high pressure hosereel jet to extinguish the fire, the thermal image camera was used to check over the property, crews then proceeded to check the roof space to ensure that there was no fire spread.

"An ambulance was requested and attended to treat a casualty suffering the effects of smoke inhalation."
