The Camborne, Redruth and District Lions Club has named its first lady president at its annual handover meeting on Saturday.

At the meeting at Tehidy Park Golf Club, the club elected Viv Broadhurst as its 41st president and she was presented with her chain of office by the outgoing president Derek Canham.

Redruth Born Viv, who now lives in Camborne, joined the club in 2013, and is also a member of the WI where she was Praze an Beeble president in 2014 and 2015, and newsletter editor and treasurer for the Trelawney's Army supporters club. Her husband David is president of the Truro Lions Club.

Derek ended his year of office by thanking all the club members and helpers for their support and efforts in a splendid year for the club, during which it made donations to 20 worthy causes amounting to £8,627 and ran fundraising activities which made £8,680 for the club’s charity account.

Viv presented the first vice presidents chain of office to Paul Bray.

The coveted Wooden Spoon, awarded for most misdemeanours during club meetings, was won outright by Steve Young, who has been the holder and co-holder of the spoon for the past five years.
