The drizzle failed to deter the 100 or so hardy pirates who descended on Falmouth on Sunday to take part in Cornwall Hospice Care's Pirate Tuff Fun Run.

Held again as part of the town's ZestiFal sports festival, the event saw the band of pirates set off from The Moor and make their way through the town, to the amusement of shoppers, to raise money for charity.

Before the actual start, the runners of all ages assembled on The Moor, and were "warmed up" by local company Linzi’s Fitness Classes before being set off on the course, which this year incorporated the Tuff Enuff mini challenge set up on Events Square.

“We’re really pleased with the turn out for this second year of the event,”' said Rose Beattie, events fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care. “People had gone to a great deal of trouble with costumes and had even decorated their buggies. We would like to thank everyone who took part or volunteered, including Tuff Enuff, Falmouth Police Cadets, SO8, Muay Thai for the marshal support; the Falmouth Town Team, Linzi’s Fitness Classes, Cornwall Resus, Cornwall 4x4 Emergency Response and the people who stopped to cheer our pirate crew through the town.”

It is expected that the ZestiFal Pirate Fun Run will raise over £2,500 for Cornwall Hospice Care once all the sponsorship money has been received.
