Flushing's annual regatta week may have got off to a bit of a wet start at the weekend, but that certainly didn't dampen the spirits of all those who turned out to join in the fun.

As is tradition, the action during the week takes place on the water, on the sand and on the land. It all kicked off at the weekend with a trawler race off the quay and live music, along with snail racing, a small pet show and fun dog show on the Bowling Green.

The fun continued into the new week with a sandcastle competition, barbecue and bathtub racing at Kiln Quay Beach, a street market and prize giving in Coventry Road and a concert by Nankersey Male Voice Choir at the Methodist Chapel.

On Wednesday there will be a pub quiz at the Seven Stars at 8pm and on Thursday there'll be children's sports and races and cream teas on the Bowling Green at 3.30pm which will be followed by a mini-marathon at 6.45pm and a junior marathon at 7pm.

Friday will see a crab catching competition from Ferry Quay at 5.30pm, from where there will be swimming and pram rowing races on Saturday afternoon, along with the village sailing regatta.

The main event of the week then takes place from 7pm when the carnival procession will leave Long Close Farm yard and make its way through the village. There will be lots of categories, from decorated prams or bikes to groups and pairs, and Falmouth Marine Band will be making an appearance. Participants are asked to arrive at 6pm so judging can take place at 6.30pm.

As Saturday will be the busiest day, a parking ban will be enforced within the village from 2pm and visitors are asked to use the car park at Long Close Farm from where there will be a shuttle running between 3pm and 10pm.

Finally, from noon on Sunday the Nankersey Rowing Club fun day will take place on Kiln Quay Beach; the Flushing Methodist Singalong will be held in the chapel at 6pm and a mystery boat trip is due to leave from the ferry quay at 7.30pm.
