Falmouth's annual walking carnival is less than two weeks away and a last minute appeal for marshals has gone out from organisers.

Volunteers are needed to help ensure the safety of all those taking party and to keep things moving along. Help is needed for just a couple of hours on Saturday, August 6, and anyone offering their services should email their contact details to Natasha Ridgment or Phil Chapman at info@falmouthcarnival.co.uk, as soon as possible.

This year's event sees the introduction of a new pre-carnival party from 4pm on the day at Falmouth Rugby Club when there will be a bouncy castle, food van, ice cream van, popcorn and candy floss stands, music, face painting, circus workshops and a fire engine to explore.

Registration for the carnival, which will as usual feature Falmouth Marine Band, will also start at 4pm with all groups needing to be signed up by 6pm so the order of the parade can be established.

In addition marshals, organisers would also like as many people as possible to help collect for charity along the route. All the money collected will go into the Falmouth Marine Band pot to be distributed to local charities later in the year, with priority given to those who have taken part in the carnival itself.

The carnival parade will leave the rugby club at 6.30pm and make its way through the town centre to Grove Place. There will be free entry to the Events Square marquee that night where The Soul Sensations will perform. There will also be a small party in the Watersports Centre for any children who have taken part in or watched the parade.

We have a good selection of bands booked this year, Dackadoum samba band, Whippletree (a Cornish ceilidh band), Swamp Circus, This and That (circus skills and music), All Star New Orleans Jazz Band and of course Falmouth Marine Band!

Also, Gillian Sadler, of Embrace Dance Fitness, will be doing a warm up before we leave the Rugby Club on the day.
