Family and friends of Penryn fisherman Josh Winsper are travelling to Wales this week to attend the inquest into his death and then a memorial service which is being held in Milford Haven, where he died almost four months ago.

Josh was just 24 when he died in April after what is believed to have been a tragic accident. He had been working on a fishing boat and had been out with his crewmates, but was the last to return to the boat, on his own. It is thought he slipped and fell into the water while trying to get back on board.

Emergency services in Milford Haven spent over two days searching for Josh, until his body was eventually pulled from the water. It is hoped the family will have a clearer picture of what happened at the inquest being held tomorrow (Thursday).

Then on Friday, Milford Haven Town Council is to host a public service in memory of Josh which will be attended by police officers and local agencies including the RNLI and Port of Milford Haven.

The Mayor of Milford Haven, William Elliott, said: "I hope this service will bring some comfort to Josh's family, after what will have been an incredibly difficult time for them. As a fishing community ourselves, we all know all too well the dangers inherent within the industry, and I hope the people of Milford Haven will come out to pay tribute to a much-loved young man."

Among those going to Wales will be Josh's mum, Sandra; his sister, Paige; aunt, Rachel Gerred-Hart and three close friends. They are all still trying to come to terms with father-of-one Josh's death.

Paige said this week: "We are doing the best we can. We have our good days and our bad days, but everyday there is always something missing but we stay strong as a family. We are overwhelmed with the support from the people in Milford Haven - they have been amazing and really shown their community spirit.

"The death of Josh has definitely brought our community and the community of Milford Haven together. We are so grateful to be able to go to Milford Haven and have a service for Josh. A part of our heart will forever be in Milford Haven."

Rachel added: "The town of Milford Haven felt the loss of Josh as heavily as Penryn - two towns connected by tragedy. The family are incredibly moved by the gesture. And part of Milford will always be in our hearts."
