Glorious gardens across Cornwall were descended upon by the judges of Coastline Housing’s annual garden competition.

Gardens boasting water features, vegetables, hanging baskets and some impressive herb, plant and flower displays were discovered by the judges of the annual competition run by the local housing association.

A number of customers living in towns and villages across the county, including Constantine, Mawnan Smith, Mabe, Porthleven, Mullion, Camborne and Redruth all proudly entered their gardens into the contest.

This year, two clients of the Coastline Homeless Service also entered the competition with a communal garden that is being developed at the Camborne Homeless Centre and also a large vegetable garden that’s providing a great supply of vegetables and herbs at a shared house.

Chairman of Coastline Housing, Derek Law, and professional gardener, Jeannie Bates, had the difficult job of judging all the many superb entries.

Jeannie said: “This year we saw how horticulture can be practised by all, regardless of their situation, and we were once again privileged to visit inspiring gardens created to benefit people and communities.”

Derek added: “Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed viewing all the gardens and would like to congratulate each and every customer who entered.”

The overall winner of the Neil Dutton Memorial Cup this year was Beverley Peek of Mabe.

Other first place winners were:

Most attractive small garden, June Mason of Mawnan Smith; most attractive large garden, Ann Holden and Vic Lovell of Camborne; most attractive garden for a flat, William Trinder of Redruth;
