Something large and gruesome is coming to Gyllyngvase beach in Falmouth next Thursday, as the latest part of a campaign to improve water quality in Cornwall.

The Marine Conservation Society and South West Water are bringing Wallace the Wet Wipe Monster - a three metre tall creature made of wet wipes - to the beach in order to educate the public about the consequence of flushing their wipes.

Wallace will be the centrepiece of a day aimed at helping the public understand the financial and environmental cost of putting the wrong stuff down the loo, as the number of wet wipes found on UK beaches has increased by 400 per cent over the last decade.

The charity is campaigning for clearer labelling on all wipes packaging, as even those labelled as flushable or dispersible can still cause problems.
