A group of fundraisers made a concerted effort to put their best foot forward with a recent three-legged walk from Falmouth to Penryn in support of young Stanley Barnes.

The group nearly-quick-marched between the towns to collect money for Stanley's Friends, which has been raising funds to support Stanley since he was diagnosed with the terminal and debilitating disease Sanfilippo type A at just 17 months old.

The walk was organised by Stanley's Friends founder Donna Harvey, who arranged it in around two weeks following a phone call from Stanley's dad Ross, saying that a revolutionary treatment trial his son was on had been ended without warning.

She said: "I just thought that it was time to start some more fundraising, and raise awareness, and let people know that this had happened. I wanted to do something and do it quickly.

"I phoned around some more friends, people, volunteers. Even people who couldn't make the day collected donations from people they knew so they could donate."

The group of about 14 walked from The Moor in Falmouth to Penryn Quay, where there was a ribbon at the finish line.

Donna added: "It was quicker than we thought, once we got the hang of it. We thought it would be very slow progress but the most difficult bit was getting started.

"It took about 45 minutes through the rain and sunshine, we had all the weather, and we got a lot of smiles along the way."

She said she was "very pleased" with the result, as the event has raised £287 so far.
