Cornwall Council has revealed plans to introduce traffic calming measures along Brown's Hill in Penryn with the aim of reducing speed and improving pedestrian access to Trelawney Park.

It is also anticipated that the measures will discourage through traffic along the stretch of road. The proposals, which are currently out for consultation, includes the creation of five sets of speed cushions along with associated no waiting at any time restrictions.

Also incorporated in the scheme are plans to narrow the road in the vicinity of the entrance to the park which will include the introduction of a crossing point to improve the pedestrian access to the park.

The council is inviting comments on the scheme which can be made online at cornwall.gov.uk/TrafficConsult, via email to traffic@cormacltd.co.uk, or by writing to Engineering Design Group, Cormac Consultancy, Radnor Road, Scorrier, Redruth, TR16 5EH, quoting reference EDG1022/C1/DS. The deadline for comments is September 29.

There has already been some reaction to the proposals on Penryn Town Council's Facebook page.

Peter Bodle said: "Great idea. With some of the lousy parking seen it is often down to single lane. The sooner the better."

Cathy Sampson said: "Yeah definitely good idea and speed cushions on Treliever Road I've nearly been run over twice on school and had baby in pram the speed they come down that hill is ridiculous."

Emma Ellis said: "Great idea. Something needs to be done, but if there is no parking at all, then that makes it difficult and dangerous for people using the park to access. I think there should def be some control. Maybe specific parking near the park up to where the wall juts out and right at the top of the hill. That bit on the bend should be kept free with a with a waiting area and priority of passage to cars coming down the hill."

Rachel Gerred-Hart added: "I find the speed of traffic there OK and I don't think parking per say causes a problem....I find traffic coming down doesn't like to give way to traffic coming up that's already committed. I'd like to see a give way to on coming traffic set up similar to the set up at the top of Old Hill."

Garrie McGinn said: "Waste of money, why not put speed bumps on Treliever Road between Station Road and the entrance to the university, traffic is slower on Brown's Hill, discouraging access will mean more traffic on West Street and Helston Road."
