Past students of Helston School were able to relive their schooldays two decades later when they reunited at the Blue Anchor.

The reunion evening was organised by Tim Macknelly, now aged 39, for anyone who left the school between 1991 and 1995.

Around 70 people attended over the course of the evening, including a few teachers such as past Helston mayor Mike Thomas and now Porthleven town councillor Dick Powell.

Tim, who left the school in 1994, said: “There was a good mix of people and it was nice to catch up with them. Some people I knew from around Helston, a few people came from further away and one came from Suffolk. These were the sort of people I wanted to go.”

A Facebook group for the event attracted around 400 followers in the first 12 hours of being set up and although not everybody then followed up by attending, Tim said he knew a lot of people had reconnected simply by joining the group and sharing old photographs.

He is now considering organising another, similarly informal, catch up next year for those unable to make it to this event.
