Tomorrow will see personnel from RNAS Culdrose marching through Helston in the annual spectacle that is the Freedom of Helston parade.

This celebrates the squadrons' right to march through the town with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating and flags flying, in recognition of the naval bases' contribution to the town.

Personnel will assemble in the Trengrouse Way car park at 10am for inspection by mayor Gillian Geer and the commander office of RNAS Culdrose, who will make an address.

The parade itself then sets off at 10.50am, heading down Meneage Street and into Coinagehall Street, where the mayor will take the salute at 11am.

There will also be a fly past from aircraft based at Culdrose.

Residents and businesses in the town are encouraged to stand on the pavement to watch the parade, with pupils from the town's four schools invited to attend and wave flags.

This year's parade is three months later than usual, after the base asked whether the event could be moved from June to early autumn, to allow for personnel to return from various postings.

A Freedom of Helston parade has taken place in the town since 1958.
