The husband of a Falmouth woman who suffered life changing injuries in a horror crash between a lorry and a van has thanked well-wishers for their "amazing" support.

Kay Kitto suffered open fractures to both legs and lower spinal fractures following a collision between a lorry, van and her parked car as she was preparing for a family holiday on September 2.

She has since undergone at least four operations, including work to nail, bolt and plate her leg bones, while her spinal injuries are being left to heal.

Her husband Nigel told the Packet: "It's just a - rather big - question now of getting her skin and muscle stuff sorted.

"Her spine fractures have been left to heal themselves and her right knee damage will be sorted at a later date."

Nigel has spent much of the last month at his wife's bedside, or travelling between Falmouth and Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where Kay is being treated.

Kay is registered blind, and her guide dog Jackie has been looked after free of charge by a guide dog boarding kennel, while NIgel has had to look after their nine year-old son Dexter.

A crowd funding page set up by a family friend to help Nigel with costs at this difficult time has already collected over £2,000, exceeding it's initial £1,500 target.

Nigel said: "Kay's been so brave and endured so much already, we're all so proud of her. We have a huge road ahead of us though.

"Everyone whether family, friends, neighbours, friends on social media, the guide dog charity have been amazing to us, thank you isn't enough."

Kay Kitto sustained her injuries while loading up the car outside her family home in Oakfield Road, just ahead of a trip away.

She was stood on the pavement when the family's car was hit following a collision between a lorry carrying telegraph poles and a neighbour's van.
Her son Dexter and guide dog Jackie were both inside the car at the time, with Jackie being thrown out of the boot by the impact, but neither were injured.

Kay was first taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro before then being airlifted to Derriford Hospital.
