ARSON is suspected after more than 45 Firefighters were called to a fire in the old Norman's supermarket last night. 

Nearby properties in South Roskear, Camborne were evacuated and the roads closed by police. Flames could be seen coming through the roof with the rest of the building off North Roskear Road and South Roskear Terrace well alight.

The alarm was initially raised at 6:27pm with two crews from Tolvaddon being called to the scene.

On the firefighters arrival smoke was billowing from the building, A Hayle appliance was also called to the scene then a third appliance was requested.

Two more appliances from Perranporth and Penzance were alerted, along with an aerial ladder platform from Truro.

Crews initially set up covering jets supplied by hydrants. Due to the size of the fire additional specialist appliances were mobilised to the scene, these included an incident command unit from St Just, breathing apparatus support from Falmouth and an environmental support vehicle with supporting pump from Penzance. A welfare vehicle from St Dennis were also mobilised to the incident.

The fire was confirmed extinguished at 10:18pm.

Two breathing apparatus wearers remained turning over and checking for hot spots and the site was declared safe at half past midnight.
