Double yellow lines could soon appear on Helston Road in Penryn to help prevent regular incidents where buses get stuck in the narrow street.

Cornwall Council is to open a consultation over proposals to extend existing no waiting at any time restrictions along the road, around the junction with Shute Hill and to add a 15 metre strip of double yellow lines to the west of the junction with Saracen Way.

At the same time the council is proposing to remove areas of double yellow lines in other parts of Helston Road, and in Saracen Way and Station Road, to make up for lost parking space.

In its consultation, the council stated: "Concern has been raised by the local bus company about buses not being able to pass parked vehicles in Helston Road, causing considerable delay and congestion within the town."

It said the proposals were "to ensure the free passage of vehicles within Penryn and to prevent damage to the road or any building near the road."

The consultation will run from October 20 to November 10, with results to be published on November 30.

The scheme will be available to view at engagespace.co.uk/cornwall, and comments can be sent to Glen Reed, technician, at traffic@cormacltd.co.uk or on 01872 327281.
