More than £4,000 was raised from the annual Fal River Walk which provides a once a year opportunity for walkers to complete the circuit of the Fal Estuary, thanks to the partnership between the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen and Cornwall Ferries.

Frank Perry, chair of the Fal River Walk committee, said: “It’s been another great year. The committee works hard over several months to bring this fantastic event to fruition. We have had wonderful support from local businesses. There is a huge army of volunteers without whom this event would not be possible. Congratulations to all involved and see you in 2017.”

The event saw 145 walkers register to sign up to either the 15 or six mile walk. The organisers were delighted that the weather was bright and musical accompaniment on the ferry and at Trelissick heightened the experience for many.

Nine-year-old Wilfred Smith, who was accompanied by grandma Pat, was not only the youngest ever walker to complete the 15 mile route, but even helmed the ferry home.

Lucy Chappell, community fundraiser for the Merlin MS Centre, said: “ I would like to thank the committee and everybody behind the scenes who work tirelessly all year round to make this event the huge success that it is. The charity is so grateful for the support both the Rotary Club and Trelissick give to us. Anyone that lives with a neurological disease will know the equal importance of both of these charities and the good work that can be achieved with this kind of support, so thank you.”
