A team of seven from Falmouth Gig Club's men's squad are aiming to raise over £1,000 for Children in Need by attempting to row non-stop for 24 hours in the choppy waters of the Carrick Roads.

The crew of six men, Matt Pullen, Jamie Maxted, Paul Morris, Ross Trebilcock and Simon Moses, along with cox Lizzie Anderson, are hoping the public will get behind their fundraising challenge and pledge support through their JustGiving page.

They will be taking to the water on November 17 and for the next 24 hours, if all goes according to plan, they will not be resting or returning to shore at any point. This means that all normal activities such as eating, drinking and even going to the toilet, will take place while the boat is on the move.

"Often in challenges like this, there will be an additional crew member taking part so that members of the team can rotate and have some rest - this is not the case in this challenge," said Adam Anderson. "All crew members will be rowing or coxwaining at all times."

To support the crew by making a donation go to justgiving.com/fundraising/FGC24hourchallenge. To date they have raised £369 of their £1,000 target.

After completing their challenge and returning to shore, the gig club will be holding an auction of donated items, including hampers, vouchers, meals etc, at the Working Boat pub, at the Greenbank Hotel, at 9pm on Friday, November 18.

Elsewhere, various schools will be taking part in Children in Need fundraisers by holding dress-up days, and Hawkins Motors in Penryn will be offering motorists the chance once again to get "sudsey with Pudsey" at their annual car washing day.

This will be held in the car park of Sainsbury's in Falmouth between 10am and 4pm on Children in Need day, November 18.
