A youngster from Penryn who was so moved by the plight of Stanley Barnes and by a television advertising campaign by the NSPCC, is to have his head shaved to raise money for both causes.

Jacob Clarke, aged 12 and a pupil at Penryn College, is now hoping people will help him raise as much cash as possible through sponsorship, donations and online pledges.

His mum Sarah said: "He saw the TV advert and it really struck a chord with him and made him realise that not all children have support, love or care at home. It was all his own idea to have his hair shaved off."

After announcing his plans, Jacob decided he also wanted to raise money for Stanley Barnes from Mawnan Smith, who has the debilitating illness, Sanfilippo type A. Jacob become aware of the charity Stanley's Friends when he was a pupil at St Francis School in Falmouth where Stanley's dad, Ross, was his teacher.

Jacob will be having his head shaved at Blu House Barbers in Killigrew Street at 2.30pm on Saturday, December 3. He is appealing for people to support him by either going online at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sarah-clarke-jacob or by collecting a sponsorship form from the barbers, where donations can also be left.
