Several business from the Falmouth area have been celebrating after collecting gold, silver or bronze awards at this year's Cornwall Tourism Awards.

Now in their 15th year, the awards saw an increase to 195 entries entering 25 different categories, with a new one this year for glamping. The awards celebration was enhanced by an entertaining presentation from lyricist and cricket enthusiast Sir Tim Rice who shared anecdotes from his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elton John.

Local winners on the night were The Waymarker, near Constantine, who won gold in the cafe and tearoom of the year category and Trebah Garden at Mawnan Smith which won gold for international visitor experience and bronze in the large attraction of the year category.

Silver awards went to Kernow Adventure Park at Halvasso, for active and sporting experience of the year; Mylor Sailing School, for access and inclusivity and Cosawes Barton at Ponsanooth, self catering property of the year. Finally, a bronze award was also presented to the Pandora Inn, tourism pub of the year.

Successful businesses in the Cornwall awards will be fast tracked into matching categories in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February and possibly invited to represent Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the 2017 national VisitEngland Awards.
