Six rowers from Falmouth Gig Club were pulling for Pudsey on Thursday night and on into Friday as they undertook a 24 hour sponsored row for Children in Need.

The six men's squad rowers and their coxswain set out at 8pm last Thursday on the marathon row, and continued in wet and windy conditions until 8pm the next evening.

The crew had an unfavourable forecast, and after a pleasant start temperatures dropped and the wind began to build from the west, so the crew retreated to the relatively calm waters of the Truro River.

Crew member Adam Anderson said: "The first 3 hours were quite pleasant, then the heavens opened and we had huge downpours of hail and rain for the rest of the night."

As the sun started to rise and the crew re-entered Carrick Roads, they were greeted by the largest hail storm, with the hail bouncing off the water. This set the pattern for the rest of the day, with minimal sunshine and many heavy showers.

Coxswain Lizzie Anderson said their morale was given much needed boosts by regular updates of the ever increasing total on their Just Giving page.

At 8pm on Friday they emerged from the darkness of Falmouth Harbour to be greeted by family and friends at Falmouth Dinghy Yard.

Matt Pullen, who initiated the challenge, said it was far from a pleasant experience and one of the hardest endurance events he had participated in, but it was a fantastic feeling doing something to help others.

The crew has already raised nearly £5,000, far in excess of their £1,000 target, with donations still being received.

The crew - Lizzie Anderson, Matt Pullen, Paul Morriss, Jamie Maxted, Adam Anderson, Ross Trebilcock and Simon Moses - thanked everyone who supported them throughout the duration of the event and to all of the people who sponsored them to achieve such a great sum of money for Children in Need.
