A Penzance pub has become one of only three in Cornwall to receive a heritage accolade from the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA).

The Admiral Benbow will be presented next month with the CAMRA’s heritage pubs award, which is bestowed in recognition of historic pub interiors.

The pub received the award for its nautical interior which was painstakingly collected from the late 1950s onwards, taking two decades to collect a wide range of nautical and piratical memorabilia. Roland Morris who put the theme together was a diver, and he brought items ashore including salvage. The pub is spread over several floors, including the upstairs Wreck Bar and the Great Cabin which evokes a sailing captain's quarters.

The pub landlady Trish McGregor will be presented with the CAMRA Heritage Pub plaque on Saturday, December 10, at 1pm.
