A poor weather forecast led to most of St Keverne's Christmas lights festivities being moved indoors on Friday.

With 40mph winds and pouring rain reported to be on the cards, organisers decided that while the switch on itself would remain outside in the square, the remainder of the fun would take place inside the parish hall.

In the event the rain mainly held off, with the occasional few drops, which helped encourage people out of their homes to take part.

Pupils from St Keverne School processed down to the square carrying lanterns they had made and then sang carols around the large tree in front of the church, donated by the Richards family. There was also music from St Keverne Band.

Father Christmas arrived on a fire engine, with the children then following him down to the hall for presents.

Inside there were games and competitions, a barbecue, mulled wine, candy floss and popcorn, with the drawing of the grand raffle.

Michelle Patterson, who heads up the organising committee, said: "It was a really successful night. It's great to get the village support, especially as we changed it up a bit, being down at the parish hall. We still had the same amount of people and children, and made around the same amount of money.

"Thank you to all our committee members and volunteers that helped out on the day. We only have five active committee members this year, and on set up day nobody turned up to help, so if it wasn't for this core of people we would have been really stuck."

She also thanked Father Christmas for making an appearance, pupils and teachers from the primary school, St Keverne Fire Station for the loan of the fire engine, St Keverne Band and the Richards family.

Next year's event will hopefully see the launch of a new grotto for Father Christmas
