A scheme which would see an estate of up to 32 new homes built on land in Mylor is being opposed by local residents and the parish council.

An outline planning application is currently awaiting determination by Cornwall Council, but has provoked almost 30 comments from people opposing the scheme.

The proposals include a variety of house types planned for the site south of Salt Box Close - one bed flats and two, three and four bed semi-detached and detached houses, half of which could be affordable.

In the design statement accompanying the application it says: "The density is similar to residential density elsewhere in Mylor Bridge and creates a scheme that fits into the existing development context providing a high proportion of green infrastructure and garden space.

"The houses have been arranged to provide a good mix of types and sizes throughout the development area with detached single storey dwellings located along the boundary with the properties on Saltbox Close to minimise overlooking and provide appropriate scale. Detached larger units have been located facing onto the green spaces."

Among those objecting to the plans is Lynn Oakes who says: "We live on a very dangerous right angled bend and our drive along with our neighbours is exactly on the bend. Visibility is extremely poor and with increasing traffic it would make it more dangerous to leave our own drive.

"In Saltbox Road there is only a very short section of footpath by Saltbox Close and the whole of the rest of Saltbox Road has no pavements and in places, is now single file traffic due to the narrowing of the road. We walk along that road to and from the school with our grandchildren and the thought of yet more traffic at busy times leaves us most anxious."

Derek Merrifield says: "Saltbox Road is already too busy to support a housing estate, at present with the volume of traffic it is dangerous to walk along this narrow unpaved road. It seems wrong to use good agricultural land. Hopefully any houses built will not be second homes or holiday lets, as there are far too many in this village already, the only thing this village needs is affordable housing for locals."

Martin Barron also objects and says: "As a regular user of Saltbox Road, both as a driver and a pedestrian, I am concerned that it is already dangerous, any increase in traffic will inevitably lead to accidents. Site traffic for current single home developments on Church Road, that use Saltbox Road for access, have already caused several close shaves, I hate to think of the carnage the amount of site traffic that a development this size would cause.

"There is a stream running under Saltbox Road - at times of heavy rain, a build up of water gathers behind the wall, and overflows the road. I have read that there is a proposal to create a lake at the lower part of the development, I am concerned that this will have the potential of creating a risk of flooding to all homes downstream of it, which includes a large number of homes in Penoweth Close."
