A woman from Penryn has died following an accident near Redruth last night, but a one-year-old child in the car with her escaped with minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the two-vehicle accident which happened at around 6.48pm last night on the A30 near the Avers. The collision involved a red Hyundai Santa Fe car which collided with the rear of a green tractor that was towing a loaded trailer.

A police spokesman said: "The driver of the Hyundai, a 31-year-old woman from the Penryn area, died at the scene. A one year old child was also in the car but thankfully only sustained minor injuries, although was kept in Treliske Hospital overnight as a precaution."

The driver of the tractor is from the Camborne area and was uninjured. The road was closed for about eight hours.
