There were dramatic scenes in St Ives on Wednesday night as police, fire and ambulance services were all called Treverbyn Road following reports a woman had been stabbed.
Local man Clive Oxley reported seeing three police cars and two ambulances arrive at around 6pm, as well as a lot of blood.
A police spokesperson said when officers arrived they found the woman conscious, with a serious laceration to her hand, which appeared to have been accidental. She was treated paramedics.
The spokesperson added: "Thankfully the incident was not as serious as first reported although the call to emergency services had been made in good faith."
