It has been confirmed that Truro Post Office is to move from its current location in March to create a "modern open-plan branch" for customers.

The new location for the branch will be the WHSmith store at 9-9a Pydar Street, which is around 75 metres from its current site at High Cross. The new branch will continue to provide the same wide range of services.

Roger Gale, Post Office director of sales and trading, said that the change would help to ensure the branch is commercially viable into the future and therefore protect Post Office services on which customers in Truro depend.

“Our customers’ needs continue to change and we are responding to that, taking the right action to sustain our services for years to come,” said Mr Gale.

The Post Office’s final plans for Truro have been shaped following a six-week public consultation. The new branch will have its own designated area in the store, with five counters and four self-service kiosks, with opening hours from 9am until 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday (with 9.30am opening on Tuesdays). It will include low-level counters, PIN pads, hearing loops and customer seating.

The last day of service at the High Cross site will be March 15. The new branch will open the next day and will continue to be operated by the Post Office, with the existing branch team providing customer service.
