Falmouth Detachment Army Cadet Force has said goodbye to its commander, but has welcomed back a former Falmouth cadet to take his place.

Sergeant Major Instructor Chris Metcalf, who was himself a former Falmouth cadet who went on to serve as a tank operator in the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, may have handed over the reins, but he's not going far.

In his new role Chris will be responsible for seven detachments across Cornwall - discipline, adult instruction, accommodation and insuring cadets and adult instructors uphold the values and standards of the Army Cadet Force.

He has left Falmouth Detachment in good hands, though, after handing over to Staff Sergeant Instructor Paige Povey, who has been with the ACF for a number of years. As a cadet Paige made it to the top rank in the Cadet Force as a four star Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major.

He may no longer be in charge, but Chris has promised to continue supporting Falmouth Detachment to help keep it as one of the strongest and best detachments in Cornwall.

Falmouth Cadets parade every Wednesday from 6.30pm until 9pm, and is hoping recruit new members. The weekly parade nights are free for cadets with weekend camps costing just £10 all inclusive, making the Cadet Force "a very affordable youth group."
