The Tin Coast Partnership has been awarded Coastal Community Team status along with a grant of £10,000.

The partnership, formed to help coordinate and develop the Tin Coast as a key destination in the far west, includes members from Geevor Mine, Cornwall Council, The Cornwall and West Devon Mining World Heritage Site, St Just Town Council, Cornwall 365 and the National Trust.

Supported by the Coastal Communities Alliance, a Government-run scheme that acknowledges local groups who wish to come together and develop a common plan for their area, the group’s aim is to promote the legacy of Cornish mining and develop tourism in a sustainable way that benefits the local economy while also respecting its rich heritage.

Successful applicants to the scheme are awarded funding to help with the implementation of their vision and the Tin Coast Partnership has received initial funding of £10,000 to establish its economic plan and brand. The money will also be used to set up a Business Supporter Scheme in the St Just-in-Penwith Parish area for local businesses to work together to raise the profile of their community.

Ian Marsh, the National Trust’s general manager for the area, said: "We’re delighted that the Tin Coast Partnership now has Coastal Community Team status. We hope it will encourage visitors to seek out the best of the area’s heritage and natural environment, respecting it and learning its stories and in turn benefitting the local economy. This is at the heart of what the National Trust does as a charity, and we’re excited to be working with others to achieve this goal."

Councillor Sue James, added: "It is really good for the area of St Just that we have become a Coastal Community Team and can continue the work of our informal partnership to promote and hopefully enhance local facilities for the benefit of locals and visitors. I look forward to starting to engage with local people and businesses over ideas for our community."
