A man from Porthleven has been sent to prison after taking a car and then driving it while disqualified and three times over the drink drive limit.

Martin Keith Hills, of Wheal Rose, pleaded guilty to taking a blue Seat Leon from Helston between December 29 and 30 last year when he did not have permission from the owner.

He then admitted driving it past RNAS Culdrose when he was disqualified from holding a licence and had 106 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath - the legal limit being 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates in Truro sent the 47-year-old to prison for a total of 16 weeks, describing the offence as "serious" due to the "very high reading and high risk to the public." He had previous convictions.

They also disqualified Hills from driving for 27 months and 24 days, and ordered him to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
