A team from Cornish Mutual recently took part in a charity engagement day at Boscawen Farm in Truro, which is ran by learning disability charity ROC.

On the day the team helped to repaint the charity's farm shop, spurred on after Cornish Mutual sponsored The ROC 5K fun run.

The ROC 5K 2017 will take place in Truro on Tuesday, June 27, covering an exciting new route.

ROC has aid they are excited for the next event, hoping for another sell out, with 650 people of all abilities, and disabilities, taking part.

Funds from The ROC 5K will support ROC Welcome, a vibrant social opportunity for local people with learning disabilities, based at Truro College.

Alan Goddard, Cornish Mutual’s managing director said: ‘The company has been a major sponsor of The ROC 5K from the beginning and this charity engagement day is another expression of our community ethos and ownership. "To completely repaint the farm shop is not just a good challenge but a really useful cross departmental team building opportunity.

"We will want to repeat this positive experience with the charity and other new staff in the future as part of their induction.’

Carly Hardwidge, one of Cornish Mutual’s volunteers, said: ‘I really enjoyed the day. I have never volunteered before but it’s something I have always wanted to do.

"I really enjoyed interacting with the people who use the farm and think it is a really lovely idea for this to be part of the induction training, doing something that helps in the community.

"The hosts were really welcoming and incredibly grateful for us being there. The staff and the people they support were fantastic and it was a really good day.’

Kat Lean, farm team leader said: ‘We loved hosting the Cornish Mutual team, they are positive ‘can do’ people who mix well with the people we support.

"Taken together with other developments, their hard work has helped create a confidence building, business like environment in our farm shop.

"This will directly support our delivery service of vegetable boxes and lead to the sale of our produce at the weekly farmers’ market.

"This is yet another brilliant spin off from our ROC 5K charity fun run."
