Road safety will be the topic at an upcoming Community Network Panel meeting for residents around Truro and Roseland.

The meeting, held on March 14 at New County Hall, Truro, will host Paula Wellings, casualty reduction manager from Cornwall Council, who will explain the work of the Fire and Road Safety Team within the community.

As part of this Paula will be answering questions around road safety and Stuart Douglas, a volunteer for Speed Watch, will be talking about reducing vehicle speeds.

Speed Watch involves local members of the community who volunteer to help the police, by engaging and educating drivers rather than issuing fines and court summons.

At the meeting successful applicants who have been awarded money from the Local Devolution Fund will update the panel on the initiatives that they have received funding for.

The Local Devolution Fund was set up to help support the assets and services being devolved from Cornwall Council to local councils or community groups.

Chris Wells, chairman of the Truro and Roseland Community Network Panel and a Truro City Councillor, said: "This is a good chance for people to hear about road safety and the Speed Watch initiative which involves members of the community and aims to drive down vehicle speeds where needed.

"I hope that local people will come along and find out about road safety and other local matters.

"Everyone is welcome. There is an opportunity for people to ask questions and those who attend will also be able to meet their local parish, city and Cornwall Councillors.”

The Truro and Roseland panel meets bi-monthly to discuss matters that affect the local area and to agree priorities that can be delivered by Cornwall Council and its partners such as the police and health services.

Some of the areas that community networks focus on include anti-social behaviour, economic development, the environment, community planning, regeneration, conservation, community safety, transport and highway issues.

The Truro and Roseland Community Network Panel includes all ten Cornwall Councillors for the area, representatives of Truro City Council and the 18 parish councils in the community network.

These include Chacewater, Cuby, Feock, Gerrans, Grampound with Creed, Kea, Kenwyn, Ladock, Philleigh, Probus, Ruan Lanihorne, St Clement, St Erme, St Just-in-Roseland, St Michael Caerhays, St Michael Penkevil, Tregony and Veryan.
