Trelowan Preschool in Penryn recently received a cheque for £1,200 which will be used towards creating a new play area for the youngsters who attend the group.

The money came from the RAOB's Sir Fred Deadman Lodge who each year raises money for good causes and last year decided to back the preschool in its efforts to boost its play facilities. Members of the lodge held various events and a raffle which eventually raised the £1,200.

This was handed over to staff at the preschool by some of the brothers of the lodge and Penryn's mayor, Mark Snowdon, also lent his support by attending the cheque presentation.

"The brothers of the lodge would like to thank the businesses in Penryn and Falmouth for donating some of the raffle prizes," said a spokesman. "The lodge has only been going 11 years and paid out over £1,600 in helping where it is needed."

The Sir Fred Deadman Lodge meets every Monday evening at Penryn Rugby Club in Kernick Road.
