An artist from St Ives is selling her work to raise fund for her daughter, who dreams of competing in the Olympics.

Emma Fashokun has created a range of limited edition artworks to help fund her daughter Maia's flourishing sports career.

Maia is the Under 16 British champion in sabre fencing, and now she needs to raise £2,000 to cover expenses for her to compete in the European and World Under 17 Championships.

She one day dreams of representing Great Britain in the Olympic Games, and already has a string of wins under her belt.

Emma has four daughters, and rushes from her job at the Cornish Gems coffee lounge in St Ives to take Maia to sabre fencing competitions all over the country.

But she still manages to find time to create original pen and ink sketches of well-loved St Ives views which she then applies to tea towels and postcards.

These sketches are now for sale via the 'St Ives Tea Towels' Facebook page, starting at just £7 each.

A former student of Falmouth School of Art, Emma hopes to sell enough items to fund Maia's overseas competitions in 2017.

Emma is also seeking corporate sponsorship from businesses who would like to support her ambitious daughter.

Maia said: "“I’m so grateful for all the help my Mum gives me, I know she works really hard for me.

"She sees how much I love Fencing and competing. Mum gives me every possible opportunity to try and better my performance through training and experience.”

Emma said: "Maia is not just talented at Sabre Fencing, she trains incredibly hard.

"She combines her heavy fencing schedule with A* averages at school and a Saturday job.

"She has been lucky enough to be supported by Truro Fencing Club and her coach Jon Salfield.

"Despite the financial difficulties it has been a real pleasure to watch her progress.”
