Two people were hospitalised after a head-on crash which led to an eight hour road closure at Newbridge near Penzance on Sunday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision between a grey Ford Focus and a red Citroen C3 on the A3071 which happened a little before 5.30pm.

A police spokesperson said: "The Citroen driver, an 18-year-old woman from the Penwith area, sustained serious leg injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital where she remains.

"The Focus driver, a 35-year-old man from Penzance, suffered chest injuries and was taken to Treliske Hospital.

"A 31-year-old female passenger in the Focus suffered bruising and a 16-month old child in the vehicle was not injured."

Police reported that both cars were substantially damaged in the head-on collision, and a specialist forensic investigation of the scene took place.

Officers from the Camborne Serious Collision Investigation Team are appealing for witnesses to this incident.
