On Friday Comic Relief asked people to "make your laugh matter", and people across the country were donning funny clothes, partaking in silly challenges and generally having a laugh to raise funds for Red Nose Day.

And in Cornwall students in many schools were doing their part, going to school dressed in red and hosting events in the name of charity.

At Kennall Vale School in Ponsanooth the pupils had made a picture of a dinosaur out of copper coins, and dressed in their most fanciful attire.

There was a best joke competition at King Charles School in Falmouth, and staff at the school sold red noses, bringing in £480 for the charity.

A cake sale was held at St Francis School, the profits from which will be split between Red Nose Day.

Louise Northern, head teacher at Kennall Vale School in Ponsanooth, said: "We decided to draw a picture on the hall floor of a dinosaur and the children brought in bags of coins to trace the lines of the dinosaur.

"The proceeds from today will be shared between Comic Relief and a down syndrome charity."

Hannah Stevens, head of school at King Charles school, said: "For Red Nose Day we've raised £480 this week. All the children have come to school today wearing red with a funny wig or hat."

A spokesperson for St Francis School said: "We've been selling red noses over the last few weeks, and we've done a cake sale.

"Parents have brought in donations, and the money raised will be going to Comic Relief."

In total £140 was raised by Kennall Vale, which will be equally split between Comic Relief and the a downs syndrome charity, while King Charles School raised £270.85 on top of £480 from the sale of red noses, and St Francis School managed to raise £628 which will all go to Comic Relief.
