A Helston rotary club has fundraising down to a tee after holding a charity golf day.

Cober Valley Helston Rotary Club raised £5,000 for The Cove centre for cancer patients and their families at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, after receiving match funding from Santander.

Members organised the golfing event at the West Cornwall Golf Club and were blessed with bright sunshine and perfect weather conditions.

A total of 18 teams took part, from local businesses, golf clubs and Rotary clubs, with the day taking a ‘shotgun start’ format, as teams of four counted two scores. There were extra prizes for longest drive, nearest the pin and twos.

The winning team was Peter’s Padstow Boys, with Helston Lizard Rotary Club coming in second and Travis Perkins Helston third.

Thanks to sponsorship, team entries and bingo afterwards, the day raised well over £2,700 for charity, with Santander then almost doubling that amount.

A spokesperson for Cober Valley Rotary said: “We would like to thank West Cornwall Golf Club for their support in providing such a lovely course and facilities, plus an excellent meal after the game, the 18 hole sponsors for their generosity in supporting such a good cause, the teams from all over Cornwall for joining us on the day and to all our club members for helping to make our eighth charity golf day such an enjoyable success.

“A special thank you from our club goes to Sophie and Joe from Santander, Falmouth for their support and for attending on the day and presenting the prizes.”
