The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has confirmed that they attended a controlled explosion in Porthleven this morning.
Many residents of the town reported hearing a loud bang in the area, at around 11am.
It has now been confirmed that the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were taking part in a controlled explosion of some expired pyrotechnics, belonging to RNAS Culdrose, on Porthleven Beach.
A spokesperson for the agency said: “Members of the team were on scene to cordon off the beach to make it safe for members of the public so the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team could carry out the controlled explosion.”
