A scarecrow festival held at The Lizard has raised over £100 for a local community events fund.

Minions, footballers and shopkeepers were all recreated for the Lizard Carboot Safari and Scarecrow Festival, held on Sunday.

Scores of people from the area turned up to take part in the event, which was organised to raise money for the Lizard Village Community Events group.

The day consisted of a carboot sale at grounds of Lizard Argyle Football Club, a scarecrow hunt around the village, and an awards ceremony held at 4pm.

Judges had to pick a best scarecrow from the 24 entries, and there was also a prize for the best scarecrow hunter.

Jenna Legge won the best scarecrow award for Captain Nige, Best look-a-like was won by staff at Coast Coffee Bar for Chef Leeroy, and young Benson won best scarecrow hunter.

Janice Price, who helped organise the event, said: "There were 23 scarecrows and various car boots scattered throughout the village.

"There was a scarecrow hunt that people took part in, and we reconvened at 4pm for cream teas and to pick the winners.

"The weather was good for us after the rain all morning, luckily the rain didn't scare people off.

"We managed to raise £137.76, and the money will go to Lizard community events.

"The next event is a picnic and races for the children.

"The group relies on the funding and its great for the community. Its about raising community spirit and that's what we're all about."
