The proprietor of Penryn children's activity centre Raze the Roof has said everything is running as normal after vandals smashed into the building last week.

Oliver Growcott-Smith also said he hopes vandalism which happened last Thursday night or Friday morning after miscreants smashed a window was just an isolated incident, rather than part of anything ongoing.

He told the Packet that those responsible had thrown a bike wheel through the play centre's windows, as well as smashing up an old fridge left near one of the doors, and "threw around" an outboard motor, spilling petrol "all over the place."

He said: "They tried - by the looks of things - to smash the windows a couple of times. They succeeded the second time.

"But unfortunately for them they left on of their wheels in the centre.

"I've still got the bike, actually."

And he added: "The week before we also had a break in which was actually an attempted burglary. They took the slats out of the window to come into the building, and triggered our alarm system."

Once staff arrived at the centre on Kernick Industrial estate the next morning, the mess was quickly cleared up and Oliver was able to open up as normal.

He said: "We had some people worried we were still closed, but I was up here at 7.30am clearing up.

"It's all been cleared up now, the police came around to take finger prints from the stuff that was left and the stuff they touched."

Asked if he could think of any reason why vandals would break into his business, Oliver said he had "absolutely no idea."

"It felt terrible really," he added. "We're a local family business that has now been running for almost ten years, we do what we can for locals,we give local kids jobs.

"To get burgled one week and the week after find the place smashed up, it's demoralising."
