Sunday saw the return of Lizard Feast Day thanks to the efforts of a group of mums determined to bring back events from their childhood.

They have formed The Lizard Community Group, which was behind the event at the weekend.

Although a little different from the old feast day, a picnic and sports event was held featuring many old-style races such as egg and spoon, sack races and slow bicycle race.

Children from preschool through to secondary school age took part, with even the mums and dads joining in.

Prizes were given for first, second and third place and every child received a special medal at the end.

Some of the regular winners of the races included Rhys, Marney, Elliot, Mercedes, Lilly Mae, Jennifer, Josh and Maisie.

The afternoon was finished with a friendly children versus adults football match.

One of the mums who helped organise the afternoon, Janice Thirlaway-Price, said: "Many thanks to everyone who helped set up and organise the fun and to everyone who attended.

"We are hoping that events such as these will be a yearly fixture."

Although free to attend, the sports afternoon saw donations given worth £81.59, which will be put into the Lizard Community fund to help pay for events being planned for the children of the village.

The next event in the village will be a midsummer celebration taking place this Friday at 5.30pm, when there will be country dancing outside of the Top House followed by a bonfire and midsummer ceremony on the green.
