People of all ages turned out to celebrate the memory of murdered MP Jo Cox in Falmouth and Penryn as they shared picnics and made new friends at the Great Get Together.

In Kimberley Park on Sunday, people gathered at the event organised by Truro and Falmouth Labour Party members. New town councillor Anna Gillett said: "We organised it not knowing whether we would have a lot of people attending or not, but we wanted to do something.

"It was organised in very short time but we felt it was really important, given the events up country, that we had the chance to spent some time together. It was a really lovely moment of peace and solidarity."

Staff and students at Penryn College took part in the Great Get Together on Friday lunchtime which followed a series of assemblies focusing on recent events in London and Manchester.

A spokesman for the college said: "Staff and students brought picnic blankets, food, stories and smiles and used these to get to know each other a bit more. It was a fantastic event enjoyed by all."
