A woman has died after the car she was travelling in left the carriageway and collided with 22 parked vehicles which were parked on a garage forecourt in St Austell.

The incident occurred shortly after 9.45pm last night, at Andrew Toms Cars on the A390 at Hewas Water.

The woman, who was in her 40s and was the passenger in a black Vauxhall Vectra Saloon car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital where he remains with serious injuries.

A police spokesperson said: "The car was travelling from the St Austell area in the direction of Truro and left the carriageway.

"The road was closed for eight hours while officers carried out an examination of the scene.”

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the car in question driving before the incident, and anyone who stopped at the scene of the collision to assist.
