There was plenty of midweek merriment at Helston Hospital last Wednesday as the centre's fundraising group held its annual summer fete.

The sunny weather brought out the smiles on everyone's faces, including lots of regular supporters of the League of Friends of Helston Community Hospital, while all the stalls reported good business for the day.

Jo Coward, chair of the group, said: "We are very pleased with the crowd that we had... there was a lot of people there. It was a lovely sunny day.

"Everyone seemed to be happy, it was good.

"There's a group that always support us and they come every year. We're always pleased to see the firm friends of the hospital."

The fair was opened by Helston's mayor, Gillian Geer, and Ms Coward said she "got everyone spending their money," and it raised just over £1,200, slightly down on last year.

Ms Coward said the money would go into the friends group's coffers, after it just spent £23,000 on six new beds, along with mattresses, bedside tables and secure cupboards.
